The Vesper Choir of University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will be in full concert at Grant A.M.E. Church-Los Angeles on Sunday, March 25, at 4 p.m. The appearance is the highlight of its West Coast Tour, which includes stops on Nevada and California.
Dr. Lawrence A. Davis, Jr., UAPB Chancellor, appointed the Rev. Dr. Clyde W. Oden, Jr., pastor of Bryant Temple A.M.E. Church, as chairperson of the Southern California tour.
“We are excited to bring these young people to Los Angeles, so that we might hear and celebrate their talent,” said Pastor Oden.
“The internationally recognized choir, under the direction of Dr. Michael J. Bates, is one of the best university choirs in the nation. The 65-70 vocal aggregation is extremely popular because of its diverse repertoire and excellent performances.”
Dr. Oden and Alumni Group President Robert E. Whitfield, Jr., have coordinated plans for the Vesper Choir during its brief stay in Los Angeles. Councilmember Bernard Parks has arranged for the Choir to visit the California African American Museum and other points of interest.
On March 25, the Choir will perform at three churches in Los Angeles. At 8 a.m., they will sing at Bethel A.M.E., 7900 South Western Avenue. At 11:15 a.m., they will perform at Bryant Temple A.M.E., 2525 West Vernon Avenue. The Choir will conclude the day with a special musical concert at 4 p.m., at Grant A.M.E., 10435 South Central Avenue.
