Crenshaw United Methodist Church

The Rev. Leonardo V. Wilborn was recently installed as interim pastor of Crenshaw UMC, located at 3740 Don Felipe Drive in Los Angeles.

Previously, the Rev. Wilborn served as associate pastor of worship & evangelism at Holman United Methodist Church. In his new assignment, he will lead the Baldwin Hills congregation that has served the surrounding community for more 60 years.

Excited about his appointment, the Rev. Wilborn said, “My wife, the Rev. Dr. Kathey Michelle Wilborn, and I look forward to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and all are welcome to join the celebration.

“Our Sunday morning worship begins at 10:50 a.m. with praise music by the Crenshaw Adult Choir.”

During this season of Lent, the Rev. Wilborn will conduct special Bible Studies each Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The theme is ‘Call Him Savior’ based on the Lenten resource developed by John Gooch.

Macedonia Baptist Church

After an extensive 16-month search, members have selected the Rev. Shane B. Scott as the new pastor of Macedonia Baptist, 1751 East 114th Street in Los Angeles.

To commemorate the occasion, four celebratory events will be held. An installation banquet is set for Friday, March 23, at 6 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Gateway Hotel in Torrance. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Amos Brown of San Francisco.

Three worship services will be held on Sunday, March 25. Bringing the message at 8 a.m. will be the Rev. Dante Quick of Friendship Baptist Church in Vallejo. Evangelist Manuel Scott will preach at 11 a.m., and the Rev. Alvin Bernstine of Bethlehem M.B. Church in Richmond will speak at the Installation Service at 4 p.m.

The Rev. Scott’s ministerial experience includes serving as senior pastor of St. Rest Baptist Church in Fresno and as youth and young adult minister at Friendship Baptist Church in Vallejo. In both positions, he implemented programs and activities that enhanced spiritual and numerical growth at the churches.

Since coming to Macedonia in November 2011, attendance has increased at Sunday services and weekday activities. Also, the congregation joined with Beth Shir Shalom in Santa Monica for a Martin Luther King celebration in January.

A graduate of Stillman College, the Rev. Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in Religion and Philosophy and earned a Master’s of Divinity degree at American Baptist Seminary of the West.

Westchester Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Actively involved at the church since July 2010, she has served 35 years in Christian ministry and 18 years in the pastoral ministry.

In the area of community service, Pastor Johnson has participated in public school reform efforts through partnerships with Healthy Start, Westchester/Playa Education Foundation (WPEF) and the Loyola Marymount University Family of Schools.

Also, she founded an organization to improve student achievement and parent involvement at Orville Wright Middle School and Westchester High School in 2007.
