Wise Solutions CDI, Inc., a Los Angeles-based environmental company, received a $226 million waste management concession from the government of Abidjan, Ivory Coast.   The contract was signed and awarded by government officials on July 4.

The agreement is part of the government’s efforts to improve the city’s infrastructure and attract foreign investors to the country’s commercial capital.

According to Wise Solutions Chairman of the Board Lloyd Prevost, the firm will provide solid waste management, pre-collections, collections, transport, recycling and street sweeping, gutter cleaning and land filling, waste to energy, waste to fertilizer and chlorine production of vector spraying for the Abidjan’s six million residents.

“Ivory Coast will no longer struggle to meet environmental reforms.  These improvements will remove the bulk of highly unsanitary conditions and leave the city business and tourism friendly,” said Prevost, a Los Angeles resident.

WISE Solutions CDI will invest $226 million to acquire equipment and build infrastructure. In addition, up to three recycling and digester plants will be constructed that can process 6,000 tons daily and up to 2.5 million tons annually.

Explaining the firm’s attraction to Africa, Prevost said, “This continent is one of the fastest growing communities for infrastructure and planned communities and it is also the wealthiest continent on earth.   Our goal is to become a major municipal solid waste management operator in Africa.”
