Thirty-five pastors’ wives in the Los Angeles area will simultaneously host the 2nd Annual First Ladies Health Day on Sunday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event offers free health screenings for high blood pressure, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, breast cancer and other critical diseases that particularly affect African Americans and Latinos.

Dr. Betty Price, first lady of Crenshaw Christian Center, serves as program chair and explained, “I am happy to be a part of this awesome undertaking. I am always in favor of anything that benefits the people and serves to improve their quality of life.”

Co-Chair Evelyn Perkins, first lady of True Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, added, “This is a wonderful way to give back to the community and all testing is free.”

Encouraging people to attend, First Lady Rinnita Thompson of Southern Missionary Baptist Church said, “This is a free opportunity to take personal responsibility for your well being and the health of your family.  If we don’t learn how to take care of ourselves for us, then let’s commit to doing it for God.”

Medical professionals from Walgreens, HealthCare Partners, the California Department of Public Health and other organizations have volunteered to provide the services.  Also, LA-area fire department representatives will hold mini-CPR training sessions and various participating churches will share information on mental illness, including Alzheimer’s disease.
