L.A.-area Ministries Plan Holy Week, Resurrection Day Events

Several churches throughout the greater Los Angeles area will present worship services to observe the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. The following is a list of some of the events.

New Antioch Church of God in Christ, 7826 S. Vermont Ave., in Los Angeles, invites the community to their Resurrection Day services on Sunday, April 21, at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Superintendent Jeffrey M. Lewis, senior pastor, said, “By attending this service, you will learn about the impact of God’s resurrecting power, God’s sovereignty over life and death and about the eternal promise of being resurrected unto eternal life due to the belief in His son, Jesus Christ.” For more information, call (323) 778-7965 or visit

The Liberty Church, 14725 S. Gramercy Pl., in Gardena, continues the Easter Trilogy sermon series by Pastor David Cross, entitled “The Real G. O. A. T. – Greatest of All Time,” on Sunday, April 21 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Also, the Drama Ministry will feature the play, “I Sent My Son,” and Easter bags will be distributed to youth, ages 2-to-12, attending Children’s Church. “The Easter Trilogy began on Palm Sunday with the sermon entitled ‘CREED,’ which encouraging us to reclaim our God- given inheritance,” said Cross. “The trilogy will conclude on Sunday, April 28, at 10 a.m., (one service only) with an illustrated sermon entitled “The Testimony of A Goat, Sheep & Rooster” that will include live animals. Trinity Baptist Church, 2040 West Jefferson Blvd., in Los Angeles, will observe Good Friday with the “Seven Last Words” on April 19, at 12 p.m., announced Pastor Alvin Tunstill, Jr. “We will be blessed to hear the Rev. S. Damon Mays, the Rev. Douglas Nelson, Elder Dominique White, the Rev. Andrew Taylor, the Rev. Ronald Lewis, Minister Zaina Rene’ and the Rev. Bruce Jackson in the Trinity sanctuary,” said Tunstill. On Sunday, April 21, the children and youth will present the Sunday School Easter program at 8:45 a.m. The Easter service takes place at 10 a.m. “You are welcome to join us for these services in celebration of Trinity’s Holy week,” added Tunstill. Agape Church of Los Angeles, 3725 Don Felipe Dr., in Los Angeles, will host three Holy Week services, according to Bishop Craig A. Worsham, pastor. Maundy Thursday worship will take place on April 18, at 7 p.m. With a theme of “A Service of Love and Reflection,” the program will include feet washing and Holy Communion.

On Sunday, April 21, at 8 a.m., retired AME Bishop Theodore Larry Kirkland, Sr., will preach followed by continental breakfast. At 11 a.m., Worship will bring the message. Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church, 3719 W. Slauson Ave., in Los Angeles, plans Resurrection Sunday services on Sunday, April 21, said Pastor Mary Minor. At 7:45 a.m., the Christian Education Department will present an intergenerational Easter program and at 9 a.m., Resurrection Sunday worship will be held. Call (323) 296-5610 for more details.


Clergy Women Toastmasters will present the “Seven Last Sayings of Jesus from the Cross” on Friday, April 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Crenshaw United Methodist Church, 3740 Don Felipe Dr., in Los Angeles, said Patti Titus, CWTM president. Congregational Church of Christian Fellowship, 2085 South Hobart Blvd., in Los Angeles, will hold Good Friday service on April 19, at 12 p.m. Pastor James K. McKnight also announced that he will preach on Easter Sunday, April 21, at the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship. Donald Perry will minister in song. Holman United Methodist Church, 3320 W. Adams Blvd., in Los Angeles, will feature parts two and three of Handel’s “Messiah” on Friday, April 19, at 6 p.m., said Bishop Warner Brown, pastor. Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Pasadena will host Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 21, at 6 a.m., at the Farnsworth Park amphitheater, Lake Avenue and Mount Curve Avenue in Altadena. Delivering the sermon will be the Rev. Dr. Larry Campbell, pastor of First AME Church – Pasadena and president of IMAGP. Love, Peace and Happiness Family Church, 4951 S. Figueroa St., in Los Angeles, will sponsor a Good Friday Service on April 19, at 11 a.m., Bishop Leon Martin, pastor. Resurrection celebration services are set for Sunday, April 21, at the ministry’s locations in L.A. at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., and at 8 a.m., at 400 S.
