Rev. Dr. Vernon S. Burroughs

To the delight of their congregations, the Rev. Dr. Vernon S. Burroughs and the Rev. Rosalynn K. Brookins were reappointed as pastors of Grant A.M.E. Church and Walker Temple A.M.E. Church, respectively.

Presiding Prelate T. Larry Kirkland, Sr., announced the assignments during the recent Southern California Annual Conference and Fifth Episcopal District Planning Meeting.

The 500+ members in attendance stood, applauded and cheered on November 4 as Steward Pro-tem Dexter Moon read Dr. Burroughs’ appointment certificate signed by Bishop Kirkland.

Expressing similar elation, Pastor Burroughs said, “I’m excited about returning to continue the work of the church and serve God and God’s people. Grant A.M.E. has been a shining light in the Watts community for 106 years.”

One member noted, “Under Pastor Burroughs’ leadership and preaching, over 100 persons were saved, more than 300 have joined, and outreach ministries have flourished in the last 3 years.”

Grant’s calendar will be full during the next year including serving as host of the 89th Session of the Southern California Annual Conference held in October 2013.

Grant A.M.E. Church is located at 10435 South Central Avenue in Los Angeles. For information about worship times or activities, call (323) 564-1151.

The Rev. Rosalynn Brookins received an equally joyous reception from her members, who joined her as she shared Walker Temple’s accomplishments with the Southern California Annual Conference delegates.

“To God be the Glory,” said Pastor Brookins while delivering her first pastoral report.  “We had 13 conversions, 13 baptisms, 57 accessions and have a total membership of 101!”

This was just the latest highlight of 2012 for the Rev. Brookins, a former Episcopal Supervisor in the A.M.E. Church.  In May 2012, she earned her Master’s of Divinity degree and during the conference; she was ordained an Itinerant Elder.

“I thank God, Bishop and Supervisor Kirkland, and all of the members of this great Zion, for your continued prayers and support,” said Pastor Brookins.

“Also, let me encourage those who may be experiencing some anxiety in life. God is faithful and has not forgotten you! Trust Him! You shall see that which has been promised, come to pass.”

Walker Temple is located at 2525 Trinity Street in Los Angeles.  Call the church office at (213) 747-7454 for information.
