LA continues to be the homeless capital of the nation, and on Saturday, November 15, Kobe Bryant and over 10,000 other LA County residents will be taking a stand and participating in the 8th Annual HomeWalk, hosted by the United Way of Greater Los Angeles. The event has raised over $4 million, moved 14,500 people off the streets and into housing since its inception.

There will be over 10,000 L.A. residents running and walking to help end homelessness, including the following expected celebrities and officials: SoCal-based Indie Rock Band, Terraplane Sun; Elise Buik, President and CEO, United Way of Greater Los Angeles; actors Mark Valley, Jon Huertas, Tia Carrere, Cameron Boyce and others; numerous local and state officials and formerly homeless veterans.

As part of United Way’s plan to end poverty in L.A. County, the organization will host the 5K run/walk and outdoor concert to raise public awareness and fund solutions to end homelessness, one of the most extreme forms of poverty. Over the past seven years, 50,000 people have participated, raising over $4 million and helping move 14,500 people off the streets and into housing.  Here are some stats:

*1 out of every 250 people in L.A. County is homeless

*More than 1/3 of the homeless are women and children; 1/4 are chronically homeless

*1 in 5 children in L.A. County lives in poverty

*4,618 of the homeless are veterans who risked their lives in service to our country

*Los Angeles has committed to end veteran homelessness in 2015, and HomeWalk plays a significant role in this collaborative effort

Every dollar donated or fundraised will be doubled thanks to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. This year’s goal is to raise $1.35 million with this match. Over 10,000 participants are expected, and registration is free for all walkers. For the first time, Los Angeles indie rock band Terraplane Sun, the critically acclaimed act that recently completed its world tour with Imagine Dragons, will be headlining the event alongside Bryant.

The Walk is one of the area’s biggest fundraisers geared to end homelessness. It also plays a big role in the collaborative fight to end Veteran homelessness by 2015 — over 4,600 vets are homeless in LA County. The event will take place at 700 Exposition Park Drive, Los Angeles on  Saturday, November 15 with registration beginning at 7:00 a.m. The opening program beings at 8:15 a.m. with the run/walk starting at 9:00 a.m.
