Keys to Preach at CME Mid-Winter Event

Bishop James B. Walker, presiding prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District of the C.M.E. Church, will convene the Southern California Region (SCR) Mid-Winter Council from Friday, December 7, through Saturday, December 8, at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 971 East 43rd Street in Los Angeles. 

Worship services and business sessions will highlight the conference.  Also, the SCR Women’s Missionary Society will present workshops and training sessions. Saturday’s agenda includes the General Session led by Bishop Walker and reports by the Presiding Elders.

The Rev. Cassandry Redmond-Keys will deliver the opening worship sermon on Friday at 7 p.m. Currently the pastor of Davis Chapel C.M.E. Church in Richmond, the Rev. Redmond-Keys previously led C.M.E. congregations in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. She also holds associate, bachelor and Master of Divinity degrees. 

On Saturday at 9 a.m., the Rev. Brian D. Reese of the First C.M.E. -Williamson Temple in Las Vegas will preach and at 12:15 p.m., the Rev. Weldon Spurling of the Body Christian Fellowship C.M.E. in Long Beach will bring the message.

The Rev. John D. Johnson is the host presiding elder of the Los Angeles/San Diego District, the Rev. Joseph C. Gardner is presiding elder of the Los Angeles District, the Rev. Julio Andujo is SCR Administrator and the Rev. Bernard M. Jackson is host pastor.
