The power of prayer is the focus of ‘Healing and Deliverance by the Finger of God’ written by Rev. Virgil Jones, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

“If a person is seeking God, I believe they can find Him by reading this book. It will be understandable to both believers and non-believers alike,” said Pastor Jones.

The book explores the role of prayer in physical recovery as well as addresses the mystery of God healing some people and not others by looking at illnesses and deaths faced by various figures in the Bible.

“After I saw a rash of illnesses and death in the church, it bothered me. I would go to the hospital, pray and sometimes the person would get better. Other times, I would go and pray and it seemed like nothing changed. In a span of 11 weeks, we had about 15 funerals.

“So, I started researching to discover why I felt many of my prayers weren’t being heard or answered. In fact, I preached an entire series of messages on healing and deliverance. After that, I saw a remarkable change, not only in my prayer life, but in the results when I would go pray for different people,” he said.

Among the illnesses Rev. Jones discusses is leprosy, which affected people cited in both the Old and New Testaments. The book defines the affliction and includes an appendix of other diseases mentioned in the Bible.

“I used leprosy because I was bothered by how an unbeliever like Naman could get a miracle from God while God’s people are in captivity. The Syro-Phoenician woman and the Roman centurion in the Gospels weren’t believers in God, yet Jesus healed their loved ones.

“So, I discovered you don’t have to be saved to get a miracle. God will use a saved person to send a miracle to someone who is begging for it that they might believe and sometimes, people get to that spot where if God gives them that miracle, they’ll be a believer for life,” said Pastor Jones.

“Those kind of stories help us. God wants us to be open to Him and listening to Him. We must have faith, remain obedient and follow His instructions. When we do this, we will discover that God will grant us a miracle on His terms.”

‘Healing and Deliverance by the Finger of God’ is now available at local bookstores and Pastor Jones will hold book-signings on Saturday, November 19 and Saturday, December 17, both at 2 p.m., at Windsor Hills Christian Bookstore, 4438 West Slauson Avenue in Los Angeles.
