Joe College

Hello world, I sincerely desire this article to reach every person who reads it, “in good health!” Several weeks ago, I wrote an article titled, “Ms. Jackson State.” After speaking with many people regarding the article, I was often asked if I had any words for the young college man. After several moments of thought and reflection of my past college days, I decided to share these words with everyone and most notably, “our young college men.”

During my first year of college is when I learned how to study. I was not up to par academically and regretfully unable to accept a scholarship in the sport of wrestling because of my low grades and test scores. Fortunately, I attended Fresno City College, where I started my academic progress. In my first English course, I recall having to read a book titled, “1984” by George Orwell. I was so fascinated with the story line that reading later became pleasurable for me.

The reason why these past experiences are important to discuss (within this article) is simple, “one does not have to be or considered to be a nerd or square, to achieve academic success!” I encourage you all to treat academic achievement like physical exercise, “the more you exercise, the better your physical appearance will become thus the increase in your I.Q and your test scores.” Trust me, I failed the 2nd grade and last year I earned an MA degree with a 4.0 grade point average.

“Joe College,” my emphasis is not all academic! I just hope to convey that you can achieve great success academically, with true effort!

In short, allow me to speak openly about your physical behaviors. While in college you will be presented with greater opportunities to (lets be open and honest) “fornicate.” I think abstinence is unrealistic to discuss (I’ll save that for another article). I have been witness to friends having to take on the responsibility of parenthood before being mature enough to be considered adults themselves. These statements are true reality, so this is not a scare tactic.

If you conduct yourself with these rules, the likelihood of you suffering ill health, heartache, or premature parenthood, is less!

“Never Not Use Protection, Never Lie, Never Cheat and Never Steal.” Meaning, the use of protection will help prevent the transmission of disease and lower the risk of pregnancy. Also, there is no need to lie to any women to obtain her attention and affection. As cool as you think you are, a woman has already chosen you before you have chosen her. Cheating is unnecessary, if you can not be faithful then you are not ready for monogamy. When I discuss “Stealing,” I am referring to the emotional and physical moments you share with a woman. As men we often acknowledge ourselves as demigods when we have multiple women. If you are not exclusive, let her make the decision to share her emotional and physical moments with you. Do not steal those moments from her.

Joe College, think of the next several years as a true developmental phase in life. Embrace your mistakes by learning from them! By doing so, you will achieve the degree of choice and manhood as well.
