In Celebration of Women’s History Month

California African American Museum’s  (CAAM) Target Sundays featured celebrity guests James Avery and Judge Mablean Ephriam in a celebration in honor of Women’s History month.  Our Mothers, Our Sisters, Our Queens, Our Own was hosted by actor Jeffrey Anderson Gunter.  Actor James Avery is best known for his role as a successful Harvard-educated judge on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”  Most recently he was cast in the role of ‘Redmond,’ father to Sherri Shepard, in Lifetime’s sitcom “Sherri.”  Judge Mablean Ephriam shared excerpts from her book “Judge Mablean’s Life Lessons, Tools for Weekly Living.”  Guests also enjoyed performances by the NAACP ACT-SO student performers, dancer Ingrid Graham, performance artist Seria Idana performing excerpts from her solo show, “Homeless in Homeland,” Joyce and Pamela Vincent as The Vincent Sisters (Joyce was an original member of Tony Orlando and Dawn), singer Windy Barnes-Farrell and singer Laurnea Wilkerson.  Local artist Teresa Tolliver guided attendees through an art project themed toward Women’s History.  “The theme for this event focused on writing women back into history,” said CAAM Executive Director Charmaine Jefferson.  “Each performance captured the roles in which women have excelled throughout our history, in culture and the arts.”
