“After Midnight” Broadway’s Cotton Club Musical

Three music legends will hit Broadway this summer in “After Midnight.” Multi-award winning icons Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and Natalie Cole (making her Broadway debut) are set to join the illustrious roster of “Special Guest Star” vocalists in the red hot Broadway musical.

LaBelle will perform from June 10 – 29, Knight July 8 – August 3, and Cole August 5- 31 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.

After Midnight takes the sexy, smoky glamour of the original Jazz Age and catapults it into a whole new era of heart-pounding, mind-blowing entertainment for modern Broadway audiences. Refracted through a contemporary lens, After Midnight celebrates Duke Ellington’s years at the Cotton Club using his original arrangements and performed by a world-class big band of 17 musicians hand-picked by living jazz legend, Wynton Marsalis.  The timeless tunes set against a narrative of Langston Hughes poetry provide an authentic backdrop for an array of cutting-edge performances by 25 sensational vocalists and dancers, including special guest stars, whose interpretations shatter everything you think you know about music, nightlife and Broadway.

Fantasia will be returning to After Midnight for a four-week return engagement (5/13/14 – 6/8/14) leading up to the Tony Awards on June 9, 2014.

Ludacris Joins Judging Panel of ABC’s “Rising Star”

Rapper-actor Ludacris has been added to the judging panel of ABC upcoming singing competition series “Rising Star.”

He joins country singer Brad Paisley and pop star Kesha on the show’s “panel of experts.” Singer Josh Groban will serve as host. The four are scheduled to appear together Sunday at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards on ABC, which Ludacris is hosting.

Premiering on June 22, “Rising Star” is based on a show that has been a sensation in Israel. The live talent show incorporates real-time voting by viewers via an app. Contestants are separated from the studio audience and the judges by a translucent floor-to-ceiling LED screen where images of voters at home appear live, and the singer can see how the vote tally is growing during the performance. The screen goes up and the performer sees the experts (and the audience) only if they reach a voting threshold.

Former “American Idol” executive producer Ken Warwick and Nicolle Yaron (“The Voice”) serve as executive producers of “Rising Star,” which is yet to announce the modifications to the original format needed to accommodate the U.S.’ three time zones reports the
