Irvin Donnell Howard, 68, passed away on Thursday October 21, 2010 peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
A native of West Palm Beach, Florida, Irvin proudly served his country as a US Marine. Irvin graduated from Florida A&M University’s acclaimed School of Business and Industry with a BS degree in Accounting. Following graduation, he relocated to Los Angeles and earned his CPA license which lead to a position at Coopers and Lybrand. Irvin briefly returned to FAMU to teach business but eventually made Los Angeles his home.
In 1976 Irvin founded The Accounting Offices of Irvin D. Howard, which he owned and operated for 34 years. He left a prominent position at MCA Universal to start his firm with the goal of providing clients of varying incomes and small businesses superior financial guidance and tax management. Though building a solo practice was challenging, the business became his life long passion and he tirelessly served the community.
Irvin’s other true passion was fatherhood. It was a role he embraced and treated as a privilege. Being a gifted teacher and mentor, Irvin emphasized education above all things and supported his children in every way. His children know the sacrifices he made and will endeavor to make him proud.
Irvin was preceded in death by his devoted mother Vivian Savage and father William Howard. His memory is left to be cherished by his children, Donnelle Thomas (Kathy), Kenneth Howard, Angela Howard (Matt) and Dominique Howard, sisters Brenda Durden (Clifford) and Nina Holland and grandsons Donny Thomas and Desmond Django Stone. He also leaves behind devoted business associate and friend Geogee Acapulco, and a host of clients, friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 5840 La Tijera Boulevard Los Angeles on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 11am.
