Mrs. Evelyn Perkins
The International Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, will convene June 24 to July 1, at the Westin Bonaventure Suites and Hotel, 404 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles.
The session will be the first convention of the newly elected president, Mrs. Beverly Glover of Atlanta Georgia.
California State Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows will host the convention. Mrs. Barbara Watkins of San Francisco is the president, Mrs. Evelyn Perkins of Inglewood is first vice president and assistant co-chair, and Mrs. Pamela Williams of Richmond served as second vice president and assistant co-chair.
Dr. Glover’s theme for the International Organization is ‘Continuing the Journey: Building a Sisterhood, Walking in the Light of God’s Love’ based on Matthew 5:16. The 2011 theme is ‘Glorify God’s Expectations through Service, Leadership and Love’ taken from I Peter 4:11.
The first conference of the International was held at the Second Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, on April 8, 1941. Dr. Elizabeth Coles Bouey, the founder and first president, conceived the idea of such an organization several years earlier.
Today, the organizations’ membership exceeds 43,000 and consists of 103 denominations with chapters in 41 of the United States, District of Columbia, and 18 nations on five of the seven continents. The headquarters for the Association is located at 609 South Davis Avenue in Richmond, Virginia.
