Inspired Giving this Christmas

An estimated 33 to 35 million U.S. adults are likely to experience depression at some point during their lifetime. Between Thanksgiving and New Years more suicides and cases of depression are reported than any other time of the year.

With the state of the nation today as it relates to foreclosures, high unemployment rates, and an uncertain economy, depression can easily set in to many households this holiday season. Many households will have to cut back on spending which brings the challenge of less expensive but meaningful gifts.

Before going holiday shopping why not consider quality instead of quantity, why not consider hope and encouragement instead of materialistic possession. Instead of perfume/cologne or jewelry why not consider giving wisdom and knowledge. Rather than giving gifts that enhance the outer beauty why not give a gift that will help someone work on the character within.

Music and books are a great inexpensive way to show the love of Christ this holiday season. When it comes to gospel and inspirational music there are many choices. But to make it personal why not create your own Inspirational CD with songs that give hope, encouragement and inspiration. You can purchase music from itunes for only .99 cent and with 10 songs and a personalized CD cover you have just created one gift that can be given to multiple folks in a personal way.

Now books may be a little more expensive but if you are going to spend more why not give daily motivational books. Iyanla Vanznat has a book entitled Acts of Faith that can give wisdom and life lesson 365 days a year. One more in expensive gift that a loved one will treasure is an important family event in a picture frame. Memories are sometimes all a person has and when you can give a reflection or memory it is worth more than silver and gold.

No matter what you remember at the end of the day its all about the new life and new hope that we have through celebrating the birth of Jesus the Christ.
