Lynne Marie O’Neal Moreland Walters

We announce the passing of Lynne Marie O’Neal Moreland Walters, cousin to former Congresswoman Diane Watson and a dear friend to many others.

Walters was born May 9, 1938 in Riverside, Ca. to James Lyle O’Neal and Delma Marie Strickland. She later moved to Los Angeles where she attended Los Angeles City College transferred to Cal State University, Los Angeles and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.

She eventually received her Masters degree from Pepperdine College. Walters later pledged and became an active member in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter in 1961, she had just received her 50-year pin.

She began teaching kindergarten at 28th Street School with Los Angeles Unified School District. After 37 years, Walters retired from working with children with medical illnesses or children who were waiting for placement in a safe school environment (back to regular school) after they were shot or stabbed.

Walters loved to travel and was adventurous. She loved the arts and to read in her spare time. She left us at an unexpected time on May 10, 2011 and leaves us with memories to treasure.
