L.A. Bison ring in Charter Day on March 27
The Los Angeles area Howard University Alumni Club will be celebrating the 148th Charter Day of the University with a weekend long celebration beginning on March 27.
To kick off the weekend celebration, the club will host its first ever Charter Day Celebration Concert featuring Genesis – “The Balm” on Friday, March 27 from 6p.m.-9p.m. in L.L. White Memorial Hall at Holman United Methodist Church.
Founded by Los Angeles residents and 1963 Howard Alumni, Morris and Kay O’Kelly, The Balm was founded in 2010 and features some of the best local talent with superior training and experience.
Their repertoire is diverse including Jazz, Gospel, and Classical music. Performed by musicians who have traveled the world, Genesis – “The Balm” celebrates a new group of singing friends immersed in music. Tickets prices for the event are $65 until March 13, and $75 thereafter and can be purchased via Eventbrite or at the door.
Following the concert, the alumni club is hosting a Presidential Welcome Reception in Pasadena, honoring Howard University’s newly inaugurated 17th President, Wayne A.I. Frederick, MD MBA.
The reception will be hosted by Howard University School of Dentistry Alumna, Dr. Cheryl Bingham, DDS at the home of fellow alumni, Dr. Karen Gunn and Dr. Roby Radley.
Alumni and friends are asked to give a minimum donation of $75 which will go towards the alumni club’s scholarship fund for incoming and continuing students from the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
“We are proud of the University’s rich legacy and of our alumni presence in and around Los Angeles,” said Yasmine Parrish, President of the Howard University Alumni Club. “We hope that this event brings not only Howard alumni but friends of Howard, supporters of HBCUs and of Black education!”
This is the first of what the club hopes to be many more years of Charter Day celebrations in Los Angeles. With over 400 alumni in the area the Howard Alumni Club of Los Angeles County is leaving an indelible mark in the community.
