Dr. Margaret Pleasant Douroux will hold the Heritage Music Foundation’s 27th Annual Gospel Music Conference and Expo on Wednesday, July 25 to Saturday, July 28.

All activities take place at Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church, 46 Maxwell Street in Irvine. The Rev. Mark E. Whitlock II is the host pastor.

According to Dr. Douroux, Gospel singers from all over the nation will attend, and all Gospel music enthusiasts are invited to register and participate.

“For 2012, we are saluting the nationwide historic phenomenon of Gospel music with the theme, ‘Gospel Roots People, Churches, and Choirs,’” said Dr. Douroux, the internationally acclaimed Gospel music songwriter and educator.

The conference features more than a dozen national Gospel artists plus performances of music penned by Dr. Douroux and others.  Also, special concerts will be presented that are open to the public at no charge and the New Music Choir will open each evening session with new compositions and composers.

HMF’s grand kick-off concert, ‘Celebrating Our Roots with A Tribute to the late Rev. James Cleveland,’ is set for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Performers include Dr. Douroux and the Heritage Mass Choir, the Rev. Quincy Fielding and the L.A. Gospel Messengers, the Rev. Calvin Rhone, and the L.A. chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America under the direction of Dr. Rodena Preston. The emcee will be Edna Tatum, host of the Gospel Classics show on KPFK-FM 90.7 radio, representing the Gospel Announcers Guild of America.

On Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the concert features the music department of Christ Our Redeemer directed by the Rev. DeWayne Knox, Minister of Music and Worship Arts, former NBA star Minister Tyrone Powell of Fredericksburg, VA, and special guest choirs from Orange County.

The Grand Finale Concert is Friday at 7:30 p.m. Headlining the all-star celebration are actress-singer Lecresia Campbell (Dreamgirls), Minister Tyrone Powell; D.C.’s multitalented Rodney Teal with the Heritage Conference Choir, and Houston’s renowned V. Michael McKay with special guests. Kevin Nash, KJLH FM broadcaster, will serve as M.C.

The week will wrap up Saturday morning at 8 a.m., with the Annual Breakfast and Fashion Show and Dr. Douroux’s Founder’s Message. Tickets are $30.

Registrants will participate in classes and rehearsals on Thursday and Friday. Following continental breakfast at 8 a.m., Dr. Douroux will hold “Living Treasures” seminars on the art and historical timeline of gospel.

At 11 a.m., Attorney Teal, the Rev. Rhone, Dr. Douroux and many music scholars and national musicians examine the National music scene from a Black Gospel perspective with the goal of disclosing the need and for achieving HMF’s ‘Gospel House.’

The afternoon sessions will include teaching new compositions to the mass choir, jam sessions, mentoring sessions, and HMF Satellite Chapters Business Meetings.  At 3 p.m., McKay will conduct new music from ‘The V. Michael McKay Hymn Book.’

Full registration is $105. For details, call (310) 674-1903 or register online at
