HAWTHORNE MURDER

Authorities today announced that the stepfather of fatally stabbed Hawthorne woman was being sought

for questioning as “person of interest.”

   The death in the 4800 block of West 118th Street was reported just

before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Deputy Aura Sierra-Lidman of the Los

Angeles County Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

   Naquia Catching of Hawthorne died at the scene, coroner’s Assistant

Chief Ed Winter said.

   The wanted man, whose name was not released, lived at the location with

the victim and her mother, sheriff’s officials said.

   Investigators said the victim’s mother called Hawthorne police to report

that she found her daughter injured and unresponsive when she returned home,

Deputy Don Walker said.

   “Hawthorne Police Department personnel and paramedics responded to the

location and determined that the victim had been stabbed,” Walker said.
