In a move to encourage unity, writer Billy Harris, Jr., penned “Dear America.” His goal is to counter hate, injustice and intolerance through his words.
Considering the mood of the country, Harris said, “I felt that people needed to hear something about hope, possibilities and unity in America. Not only political unity, but unity under God.”
Harris, who began writing as a youngster, expects both believers and nonbelievers will be inspired by the words of “Dear America,” especially people who value diversity.
Phrases throughout the poem highlight faith, standing for the right thing, closing the economic and political gaps along with building bridges between government, citizens and educators.
“America offers dreams and we are a mixed group of amazing humans that can achieve the impossible. History shows that a united nation brings growth in the economy, relationships, families, health and overall progression,” noted Harris.
“The strength of our nation will be measured on the unity of our nation. Let’s stand, America!”
His future plans include writing a series of books that he hopes will help people on their journey through life.
Guided by Hebrews 11:6 (“…Without faith, it is impossible to please God…”), Harris is committed to applying his faith to please God in all of his endeavors.
