H.U.F. Awards and Scholarship Brunch To Take Place June 21

A call for nominations is currently underway for The Mablean Ephriam Foundation's Honoring Unsung Fathers (H.U.F.) Awards and Scholarship Brunch to be held on June 21. The Seventh Father's Day awards brunch will take place at the Downtown Marriott Hotel, 333 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles, California at 1:00 pm.

Established to bring attention and recognition to everyday fathers who maintain a lifestyle that exemplifies love towards their spouses, children, family and community, the H.U.F. Awards is the brainchild of Judge Mablean Ephriam. Nomination forms are currently available and can be received by logging onto All nomination forms must be submitted and completed by Friday, May 22, 2009 no later than 12 noon.

A total of five (5) awards will be presented during the brunch program to a single father (Solo Warrior), married father (Love Cares), divorced father (Fatherhood Forever), non-biological father (Village Dad) and a senior father (Living Legacy). In addition to these awards, the Founder, Judge Mablean, presents a Founder/President's Award to a father hand- picked by her.

In addition to the Father's Day Awards, the foundation will present five (5) scholarships to students from the Greater Los Angeles Area. Three (3) will be awarded to 2009 high school graduates and two (2) to continuing college students between the ages of 19-35 who quit college, but have now returned. Scholarship applications are currently available and can be received by logging onto and clicking "Scholarship". All scholarship applications must be submitted and completed by Friday, May 22, no later than 12 noon.

H.U.F. Awards featured artists include renowned gospel recording artist, Tremaine Hawkins, and jazz saxophonist, Mike Phillips. Michael Colyar will serve as celebrity Master of Ceremonies again.

There will be a surprise vocal performance by a H.U.F. favorite celebrity presenter. You must be present to witness this.

Last year's H.U.F. Awards drew more than 800 families, friends, and celebrities to the awards brunch.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to extend love to these remarkable men and financial assistance to deserving students," says Judge Mablean. "If you know a father that loves and respects his wife, is dedicated to his children or a student who gives back to their community, take a moment to nominate them for a 2009 H.U.F. Award or Scholarship."

Judge Mablean has been involved in law for over 30 years, 26 years of which have been in family law. She served as the presiding judge on FOX TV's Divorce Court, which can currently be seen in syndication on TV One and BET. Since her departure from Divorce Court, she has traveled throughout the country to inspire, share, and educate individuals on real life topics. She also serves on the Executive Board for the Mesereau-Ephriam-Villaraigosa Free Legal Clinic; is a member and past president of Black Women Lawyers; co-owner of Jubilane Guesthouse, a bed & breakfast in Johannesburg, South Africa; and owner of Mablean's Limousine Service in Los Angeles.
