Happy Time Herbs & Vitamins Kiosk in the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall has what you need.

“Quality is not negotiable,” is the motto at Gueye’s Health and Beauty located on the first floor of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. On her website, Creator, Valinda P. Gueye writes that the products her company has sold to beauty salons and health food establishments have been manufactured under the “most stringent standards with FDA approved ingredients, adding to our promise to provide the highest quality products on the planet.  We supply the industry’s most innovative health and beauty products available.”

The products include bottles of supplements with encouraging labels like, “Life in a Bottle,” which promises help with nutritional deficiencies, anemia and hormonal imbalance; and “The Purifier,” a natural antibiotic and anti bacterial agents. Gueye has been researching the benefits of naturopathic healing since the 1980s, she said. Her credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Health, a Master of Science degree in Natural Health Sciences, and a summa cum laude Doctor of Philosophy degree in Holistic Sciences.

She was also awarded an honorary doctorate of philosophy degree – honoris causa by the University of Berkeley. She is board certified by the American Alternative Medical Association and the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

So, when Dr. Gueye says she knows which herbs and other natural ingredients will help with weight loss, vision and cardio vascular health, she knows what she’s talking about. That is not to say that she shuns traditional medicine. There is a time and place for the traditional as well as the natural, she said.

“The times when allopathic medical care is actually needed, should be thought of by the patient as the times where time is not of the essence and the disease process is moving faster or has progressed farther than a natural remedy might be able to combat,” wrote Gueye in a commentary for the Sentinel in 2010.

But the main benefit of natural medicine (which includes practices like acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda) is its concentration on the whole person, rather than individual symptoms.

“It is a form of medical philosophy, which incorporates, for the most part, therapeutics in their most natural state,” Gueye said.

“Natural Medicine Systems are often seen as an alternative to allopathic medicine found in the modern world, though for more than 70 percent of the world’s population, they are not ‘alternative,’ but the primary approach to health care. Though herbal medicine has an unfortunate and cloudy reputation in the west, its use is documented by far more longitudinal success than drugs, used commonly in allopathic medicine.  World Health Organization states that 80% of the global populations are dependent on herbal medicines as their primary health care.”

“Dr. Gueye’s impressive ability to combine science and nature has brought her great success,” said a spokesperson.

“Gueye’s Health and Beauty, Inc. supplies the industry’s most innovative health, skin and hair growth products available on the market [and] they employ highly trained and skilled staff, including qualified chemists and pharmacists. The manufacturing facility is equipped with fully automated, state-of-the-art machinery and an Analytical and Research and Development Department/Laboratory.”

The doctor uses the latest technology to ensure quality control in the processing and testing of her products, they said and the raw materials used to create them are thoroughly analyzed for purity and conformance to industry standards.  The manufacturing facility is licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), California Department of Health Services, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms, Los Angeles County Public Health Department.
