‘The Man, the Message and the Ministry’ is the theme of the 35th Appreciation Services saluting the Rev. Dr. Earl A. Pleasant, the pastor of Greater New Bethel Baptist Church.

Many of the leading clergy from throughout the country will participate in the celebration beginning Sunday, July 3, and continuing until Sunday, July 17. The services will take place at the church’s edifice located at 601 East 99th Street in Inglewood.

“We, the Greater New Bethel Church family, are excited and extend an invitation to every member and friend to come and worship with us as we honor our pastor. We give God the Glory and the highest praise for blessing us with such an anointed man of God with the message from God and the ministry of God,” said Sister Loretta Kelly.

Explaining the meaning of the theme, Sister Kelly said, “Our pastor, the ‘Man,’ is directed by God’s sustaining power. He is a godly man filled with the Holy Spirit, one who leads a godly life; one who provides spiritual leadership in prayer – deep, heartfelt intercessions and petitions.

“Our pastor is focused on the call of Christ to preach the uncompromising gospel of Jesus Christ to lost men and women. The ‘Message’ specifically teaches spiritual growth and divine character to all that will hear. The message is preached with urgency and conviction to change lives of believers and unbelievers that they may return to God’s original plan for man.

“The ‘Ministry’ actively engages in evangelizing local, forbidden, and un-trodden territories that men may have an opportunity to hear the gospel, the revelation of God’s glorious gift of salvation,” she said.

The observance begins Sunday, July 3, at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Melvin V. Wade Sr. of Mount Moriah Baptist Church and Rev. Johnny Newell of Rising Sun Baptist Church. On Sunday, July 10, at 10:45 a.m., the guest preacher will be Pastor Timothy Woods of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. At 3:30 p.m. the guests will be Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer of Faithful Central Bible Church and Pastor Melvin Hill of New Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

The 10:45 a.m. service on Sunday, July 17, will feature Dr. F. D. Sampson of Friendship Baptist Church in Houston, TX. The guests at 3:30 p.m., will be Rev. Dr. R. A. Williams, pastor of McCoy Memorial Baptist Church and Rev. Dr. A.D. Iverson, pastor of Paradise Baptist Church.

Dr. Pleasant’s Retirement Celebration
Two gala programs are planned to celebrate the retirement of Dr. Pleasant. A grand musical will take place on Thursday, July 28, at 7 p.m., at Greater New Bethel. Several local and national artists are scheduled to perform.

The celebration will culminate with a Retirement Banquet on Friday, July 29, at 7 p.m., at the LAX Westin Hotel, 5400 West Century Boulevard in Los Angeles. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, pastor emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago IL.
