Grant African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 1129 Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach,
will hold two events this weekend, announced Pastor L. Fisher Hines.

“On Saturday, August 13, at 1 p.m., the first ‘Grant Men Cook’ will take place at the church. This event, sponsored by our Men’s Fellowship, will feature the best culinary offerings of the men in our congregation,” said Dr. Fisher.

“Attendees will be able to sample small portions of a variety of dishes for a donation of $1 per serving and proceeds will go toward the fundraising efforts of our Annual Men and Women’s Day on Sunday, August 14,” he said.

The theme of the Sunday observance is ‘Men and Women: Celebrating Christ, Church, and Community.’ At the 10:45 a.m. service, U.S. Congresswoman Laura Richardson will be the speaker. The preacher for the 3 p.m. service will be the Rev. Dr. C. Dennis Williams, pastor of Brookins Community A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles. Also, the Brookins choir and congregation will be special guests.

Keith Bennett is the president of the Men’s Fellowship and the chairpersons for Men and Women’s Day are Yvonne Booth and Laurence Christian. For information, contact the church office at (562) 437-1567.
