Grant AME Church will host its quarterly Dementia Friendly Worship Service on Sunday May 18, at 10 a.m., in the edifice located at 10435 S. Central Ave., in Los Angeles, announced the Rev. Dr. Timothy O. Coston, Jr., senior pastor.

The worship will include music by the Adult Choir under the direction of Byron Smith and a sermon by Pastor Coston.  At 11:30 a.m., a lunch and learn session will take place featuring the Rev. Carolyn Habersham. She will share her journey after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

According to Coston, Grant AME was designated a “dementia friendly church” in March 2024. Dr. Fayron Epps, founder of ALTER, introduced the program to congregation Grant AME Church to increase awareness and resources around dementia and brain health in underserved communities. The ALTER program aims to support families/congregants living with dementia as well as assist faith-based communities in meeting the needs of families based on three pillars, education, support and worship.
