Governor Brown to Speak at Legislative Black Caucus

Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Celebration

Sacramento, CA–Newly elected Governor Jerry Brown will give the keynote address at the annual MLK, Jr. Civil Rights Leadership Awards Breakfast hosted by the California Legislative Black Caucus on Thursday, January 20th at 7:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, 1230 J Street, Sacramento.

“It is an honor to have our Governor start the New Year with the African American community, breaking bread and celebrating Civil Rights Leaders past and present,” said Senator Curren D. Price, newly elected chair of the Legislative Black Caucus.

“Indeed, California has made Civil Rights history this year with the inauguration of Kamala D. Harris, the first African American, first woman and first South East Asian to become California’s Attorney General.

“Ms. Harris and Governor Brown both have exemplary records of commitment to social justice and the California Legislative Black Caucus looks forward to working with them to make our state a place where all Californian’s experience social justice and equality of opportunity.”

Linda Crayton, Senior Regional Director/Government Affairs for Comcast Corporation, will receive the Corporate Community Advocacy Award for her exemplary commitment to meeting the needs of Californians and using her influence give voice to minority communities.

Areva D. Martin, Co-Founder and President of the Special Needs Network, will receive the Civil Rights Leadership Award for her tireless work in increasing autism awareness and promoting equality in healthcare.
