Ok, so maybe you didn’t get that Summer-ready body before you headed to the beach— but that doesn’t mean you can’t get that body now. If you still want to get in shape, there are more than a few free ways to go about doing that. The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook and BHCP workouts are two ways to get in great shape for free in no time at all.

BHCP Workouts

The Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza offers free workouts on the Macy’s Bridge. The BHCP workouts include Zumba, Cardio-Kickboxing and Yoga. Anyone of these workouts is an effective ways to get in shape.

Cardio-Kickboxing is a great way to sculpt muscles and burn fat. According to some research, kickboxing can burn anywhere from 500 calories to over 800 calories in a workout. This is a great workout that involves the whole body toning legs, arms, thighs, butt and abs.

Yoga is one of the best ways to center both body and mind while stretching and toning the muscles improving flexibility and circulation. Over 20 million Americans practice yoga based on a 2012 Yoga in America study. The eastern practice helps reduce stress and boost overall well-being, but it also offers wide-ranging physical health benefits that rival other forms of exercise.

Zumba is a dance fitness combining salsa and other Latin dances moves with music beats. The workouts allow for all people of any fitness or dance experience level to get fit. Zumba classes provide a large calorie burn through aerobic activity done with interval training. While doing Zumba, most can look to burn up to 400 to 600 calories per hour. These classes are some of the most popular around and are a fun way to lose weight and get in shape.

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook offers a variety of terrain that will help you tone and shed the fat. The 58-acre park, which is also native habitat for wild flowers, birds and small animals, offers a variety of walking trails with varying degrees of difficulty.

There are multiple paths one could take to reach the top of the overlook, all challenging in their own way. The main road, Hetzler Rd, will take you to the very top of the overlook. Many walk Hetzler Rd for a workout you won’t forget. The semi-steep incline and winding road provides a good workout targeting the glutes, quads, hamstrings and calves. This road is going to make you sweat.

The most famous attraction of the BHSO is the stair climb all the way to the top. There are always people on the stairs climbing, running, jumping, you name it! The 270 stairs will definitely get that heart pumping, legs burning and sweat running.

For the casual walker or cyclist, there is the trail, which winds its way to the top as well. The trail ranges from steep, to moderately steep, to a climb in certain areas. The trail provides a variety of challenges sure to keep you coming back for more.

The BHSO is a guilty pleasure because it provides a good workout with breathtaking views. It’s a workout fanatics dream and a casual walker’s delight. The park is always loaded with workout enthusiasts, casual walkers, cyclists and folks just looking to take a stroll.
