Flaco Navaja Pays Tribute to Human Resilience at L.A. Theatre Center

Hip-Hop meets Salsa as Flaco Navaja, a prominent voice of the Puerto Rican diaspora, brings his love letter to the Bronx to Los Angeles. Backed by a live, five-piece salsa band, Navaja creates a love letter to his native Bronx, imbuing it with the charm, rhythm, soul, and improvisational spirit of a true Sonero.

Blain-Cruz Directs and Emile Choreographs “Stranger Love” Opera

Two African Americans have important roles in the opera “Stranger Love,” which makes its world premiere at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, May 20, in downtown Los Angeles. The creative team also includes Director Lileana Blain-Cruz, who is making her LA Phil debut. She is one of three Black women to ever be nominated for a Tony Award in the “best direction of a play” category for her directorial debut at the Lincoln Center Theater with “The Skin of our Teeth” by Thornton Wilder. Originally from New York and Miami, she is currently resident director of the Lincoln Center

Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa Unveils Star-Studded Lineup

Blue Note Entertainment Group has announced the lineup for its second Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa, scheduled for July 28–30, 2023. Curated by five-time Grammy Award winner Robert Glasper, and hosted by internationally acclaimed and award-winning comedian Dave Chappelle, the festival will feature a host of well-loved artists including headliners Mary J. Blige, Nas and Chance the Rapper.

CJF Plans Event to Honor and Help California Jazz Musicians

The California Jazz Foundation will present its 11th annual “Give the Band a Hand” gala fundraiser at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel on Saturday, April 8, at 5:30 p.m. The event honors the best of the jazz community while raising money to provide support to California’s jazz musicians in financial or medical need.
