Earvin “Magic” Johnson Endorses Bass’ Congressional Bid

NBA Legend-turned-businessman Earvin “Magic” Johnson announced today that he is endorsing California Assembly Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass in the race for California’s 33rd U.S. Congressional District.

“Karen Bass is one of the people that I really trust and admire,” Johnson said. “She’s a woman of her word, and she will accomplish a lot as our congresswoman. Karen will bless us by being a public servant who always goes out and keeps the community and people first.”

“I am honored to have earned Magic’s support,” said Bass, whose current district includes the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza in Los Angeles which is where Johnson’s Magic Theaters Complex is located. “And I pledge to continue delivering needed change and real results for the people of this district.”

During her tenure as Speaker, Bass was able to deliver bipartisan results such as protecting 600,000 children from losing their health care, restoring the governor’s cuts to domestic violence programs and helping Californians become eligible for continued federal unemployment benefits. She even took savings from the Assembly’s budget and gave them to help speed unemployment claims in the state.

Before Speaker Bass began her political career, she was a community organizer who founded and ran the Community Coalition in Los Angeles. Prior to her community organizing, Bass worked for almost a decade as a Physician Assistant and served as a Clinical Instructor at the USC Keck School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program.

Bass launched her congressional campaign nearly three weeks ago after the incumbent, the Honorable Diane Watson, announced her retirement and subsequently endorsed Bass. In addition to Mr. Johnson and Representative Watson, Bass had been officially endorsed for California’s 33rd seat in the House of Representatives by Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Controller Wendy Greuel and other elected officials and organizations including EMILY’s list.

Paid for and authorized by Karen Bass for Congress, 777 S. Figueroa Street, #4050Los Angeles, CA 90017
