DMX files lawsuit against Rich Kid Entertainment

*Rapper DMX has filed a lawsuit – from jail – against a company he claims has been stealing his royalty checks for at least the past 10 years.

The artist, born Earl Simmons, accuses Rich Kid Entertainment 1 and related companies of collecting royalties on some of his most popular work without forking over his cut. The company also made deals letting record labels reproduce his work without telling him, according to the lawsuit, which was filed Monday.

DMX, 39, has been arrested and jailed so many times during the last decade that he’s just now discovering the issue, the lawsuit states. He’s currently serving a six-month term in a Phoenix jail for violating probation by failing a drug test, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

“From 2000 through 2008, (DMX) was in and out of jail and changed representatives numerous times. These were some of the factors contributing to any delay” in bringing the case, the lawsuit notes.
