Holman United Methodist Church is hosting its second annual Leon Davis Memorial Golf Tournament on July 8, at the Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena.
Along with 36 holes at one of the Southland’s most scenic courses — two courses measuring 6,046 and 7,200 yards framed by the San Gabriel Mountains and adjacent to the famed Rose Bowl stadium — the tournament includes a putting contest, longest drive, and closest to the pin challenges.
Lunch will be available before the round of golf begins with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Dinner will be served when the golf is completed. A silent auction for a variety of prizes will commence during the dinner hour.
The cost for a single player is $125. There are also group sponsorship packages.
Proceeds from the tournament help support various church ministries. Among them are the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a nonprofit organization that provides aid to people and/or regions affected by war, conflict or natural disaster where life has been disrupted to such extent that they cannot recover on their own.
UMCOR spends 100 percent of designated donations on the projects donors specify, and provide not only temporary relief, but also long-term education, training and support.
Also receiving tournament proceeds is the “No More Malaria” campaign, a global partnership which seeks to treat and eliminate the disease in Africa.
