Looking for entertainment that gives you that good ole’ Down South family feeling? That makes you reminisce about those times in the country? Head down to the Theatre/Theater-Hollywood to see the play “Daddy’s Dyin’, Who’s Got The Will.”

The play takes place at the family home of the Turnover family in Lowake, Texas. When Buford, the father of the family, suffers a stroke, his children come together as a group for the first time in years, and old issues remerge, which causes Mama Wheelis to want to go and get her razor belt out on her grand kids.

The main issue at hand is the will, which Buford has hidden away. The children fear that he has changed the will, leaving some of them out. Buford’s son Orville thinks that he’s “pee’d in his chitlins” and that he’s being left out of the will because of disagreements that he and his father had. Greed and envy set in as the family members jockey for Buford’s affection.

This play will have you laughing and feeling emotional at the same time.

The play is directed by Jeff Murray, who is the recipient of the 2008 L.A. Weekly Award for Lifetime Achievement for “maintaining Theatre/Theater as a beacon of excellence in LA Theatre.” Along with Producer Nicolette Chaffey, they were nominated in three categories (Direction, Production, and Sound) for NAACP Image Awards for “Buffalo Soldiers” and produced the controversial and NAACP nominated “Emmett Till.”

Playwright Del Shores has received three Drama-Logue Theatre Awards and was also nominated for Robby, L.A. Weekly and BLAAD Awards for writing, directing and producing.

Two African-American casts will continue to perform the comic tale of the Texas family facing their father’s imminent death. Performances are running Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m., now thru May 31. The Theatre/Theater-Hollywood is located at 1625 N. Las Palmas, Hollywood. Call (323) 954-9795 for reservations.
