Friends and Family Day will be observed on Sunday, November 13, at 4 p.m., at Curry Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 322 West Rosecrans Avenue in Compton.

“Everyone is invited to attend this special, spirit-filled celebration. The theme for this inspirational occasion is ‘Family and Friends Uniting As One, For One God.’ Our dynamic speaker will be Rev. James Markham, pastor of Emmanuel Temple C.M.E. Church in Victorville,” said Pastor Byron L. Smith, Sr.

Rev. Markham was appointed pastor of Emmanuel Temple in 1982. Under his leadership, a new sanctuary was built, several youth programs were implemented, a 24-hour prayer line was established, and many outreach initiatives were expanded to offer tutoring, health care and computer ministries.

A native of Los Angeles, Rev. Markham received his B.A. degree from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and Master’s of Divinity degree From Melodyland School of Theology. He also completed graduate studies at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pepperdine University, and LMU.

In addition, Rev. Markham taught math in the Los Angeles Unified School District for seven years and the Rialto Unified School District for 10 years.

Other guests at the ‘Friends and Family Day’ service include Pastor Marrix Seymore of Amos Temple C.M.E. Church in Riverside, Pastor Henry L. Masters of Holman United Methodist Church in Los Angeles and Pastor Charlie Green of St. James Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Also, Curry Temple Mass Choir directed by Jason Anderson and the Mattye White Community Choir directed by Mrs. Mattye White will participate.
