Preparing applicants to secure and maintain employment is the goal of the upcoming Job Resources and Career Expo sponsored by Pastor Mark Whitlock and the members of Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on three consecutive Wednesdays — September 14, 21, and 28 — at Christ Our Redeemer (COR), 45 Maxwell Street in Irvine.

“Essentially, this expo is designed for all people, from young adults to senior citizens, who are looking for a job. It doesn’t matter if you have a college degree or not and it doesn’t matter if you have work experience or not. We will have resources, listings and resume assistance for everyone who wants to be employed,” said Pastor Whitlock.

“Also, we will outline the steps to take to maintain your new position. Our job is to help you keep the job.”

The free sessions will share information and instruction on resume writing, interviewing skills and work attire. Workshops will also be presented on forming a business and writing a business plan. The Director of Human Resources for Fox Entertainment Studios along with several established business advisors will teach each class.

According to Pastor Whitlock, the expo reflects COR’s outreach philosophy. “The ‘Word’ must be become flesh. The Word became flesh when Jesus fed the 5,000, clothed the naked, and pulled Lazarus out of the grave.

“It’s not enough for the church to just to preach, but we must provide resources for a community in need. At Christ Our Redeemer, we do just that. The Word becomes flesh through our jobs program, our business development program, and by teaching financial literacy,” he said.

While there is no cost to attend, interested persons are urged to come early due to limited seating, added Pastor Whitlock.

“Simply show up to participate. I have discovered that the power of being present is one of the most powerful things you can do in life. Lots of people fail to show up and they miss their blessing.”
