COR Forum Denounces OC Hate Crime

Pastor Mark E. Whitlock II

Condemning the recent hate crimes against a Yorba Linda family, the Rev. Mark E. Whitlock II will join other Orange County organizations in presenting ‘Stand Up & Speak Out’ to demonstrate their collective outrage.

The forum is set for Saturday, December 8 at 9 a.m., at Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church, 46 Maxwell in Irvine.

The event co-sponsors are New Spirit Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, Graceland, Greater Light Baptist Church, OC Chamber of Commerce, OC Human Relations Commission, OC NAACP, and the Thurgood Marshall Bar Association.

Explaining why he organized the meeting, Pastor Whitlock said, “A black couple, both police officers, were forced to move from Yorba Linda because of hate crimes committed at their house and on their children. If people can cause police officers to leave a community, they can do the same to anyone.”

Also, he insisted that the incident is not reflective of the area. “Orange County is one of the safest places to live in America. It is racially diverse and economically stable,” he noted.

Calling on the public to support the forum, Pastor Whitlock asserted, “The church must take a stand against hate crime, discrimination, racism, and oppression. The church must make communities safe to live. The church must speak truth to power. We urge anyone who has been a victim to join us at this event.”
