Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Church (COR) has teamed with California State University (CSU) to offer the Summer Algebra Institute. The six-week course will be held at the church’s campus located at 46 Maxwell Street in Irvine.
“We are offering this intensive academic program to help prepare students for high school mathematics and college requirements in mathematics. The sessions are open to incoming 5th, 6th and 7th grade students,” said Pastor Mark E. Whitlock II.
“The Summer Algebra Institute prepares students for success in college while providing them the opportunity to share in the African American community’s tradition of excellence and accomplishment,” he said
The weekday course will be taught in small classes by certified math teacher and supported by online instruction. This program will also provide individual tutoring and pre-college counseling to all participants.
The staff includes Rev. Charles Dorsey, program director; Mark Whitlock III, program manager and tutor; Isaiah Magpali-Isaac, tutor; Kaneisha Washington-Adeniyi, tutor; and Anthony Owusu, tutor.
“This challenging academic experience will provide students with a repertoire of skills that allows them to pursue college majors requiring mathematics,’ said Rev. Whitlock.
