Copeland Opens LA District Conference

Presiding Elder Norman D. Copeland, Sr.

The Los Angeles District Conference of the A.M.E. Church starts Thursday, May 2, and continues to Saturday, May 4, at Ward A.M.E. Church, 1177 West 25th Street in Los Angeles.

Presiding Elder Norman D. Copeland, Sr., will lead all activities beginning with Thursday’s worship at 7 p.m. featuring selections by the Lincoln University Choir. The Rev. Taurus L. Myhand is the host pastor.

Friday’s agenda includes Sherita Herring, author and broadcaster, conducting workshops on ‘How to Incorporate Nonprofits’ and ‘Writing a Grant.’ The evening worship at 7 p.m., highlights the male choirs of St. Paul, First, Ward, and Primm A.M.E. Churches.

The youth lock-in starts at 8 p.m., with an Anti-Bullying Panel Discussion followed by a movie screening of ‘The Take Over.’  Guests include Mindless Behavior, Kim Coles, Kurt Lykes and Daven Baptiste.

On Saturday, the business session is set for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Workshops are planned on home preservation, loan modifications and first-time homebuyers.  The presenter is Linda Jackson of the NID Housing Counseling Agency.  Bank of America, Wells Fargo and GMAC/Ocwen representatives will also participate.
