WASHINGTON DC–Congresswoman Laura Richardson (D CA37) today announced that she is joining all Californians in observing May as Women’s Health Month and welcomes the constituents of the 37th Congressional District to join her.

“The state of California observes May as Women’s Health Month to raise awareness of health issues that affect the lives of California’s women and girls,” said Congresswoman Richardson. “This is another opportunity for our state and community neighbors to combine their efforts to enhance the awareness of women’s heath throughout the month and beyond.”

The 37th District includes the cities of Carson, Compton, Long Beach, Signal Hill and Watts Willowbrook, and Rep. Richardson is encouraging constituents to join in commemorating this special occasion to increase awareness and promote women’s health in an effort to reduce their risks.

“Many minority women are at a high risk for many preventable diseases and conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and depression,” stated Congresswoman Richardson.

“During this month many free services will be provided by organizations within our communities that will offer diabetes and cholesterol screenings, blood pressure screenings, bone density analyses, mammograms and other services. It is my desire that as many women and girls will take advantage of these opportunities to improve their health.”
