Congresswoman Laura Richardson recently hosted a roundtable discussion on the Successes and Challenges for Transportation in the 37th Congressional District of California, at the Long Beach Hyatt in Long Beach.

In addition to an impressive panel of local elected officials, business leaders and others involved in local transportation related issues, the event featured Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari and Acting Maritime Administrator David Matsuda.

“This roundtable gives our impacted stakeholders a firsthand opportunity to discuss our transportation needs and challenges with those who make the decisions.” Richardson said. “By having national agency experts like Deputy Secretary Porcari and maritime Administrator Matsuda visit the district, we will continue to establish that the 37th Congressional District is at the epicenter of transportation in the nation and evaluate what’s working, what’s not working and where we need to focus our transportation resources.

With presentations from the Cities of Compton, Carson, Long Beach and Signal Hill; representatives from the Compton and Long Beach Airports; the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority; Union representatives, and others, as well as a standing-room-only crowd of concerned residents and constituents, Richardson was able to conduct a comprehensive report and review of transportation issues in her district.

“This event also provides us with the opportunity to give these high-ranking officials a real picture of our situation, which will open-up our ability to work together to improve the district’s infrastructure by reducing congestion, limiting airborne pollutants, and ensuring a smooth flow of goods through the port and into the rest of the country.

Following the roundtable, Richardson accompanied Porcari and Matsuda on a vehicle tour of the immediate area and a helicopter view of significant transportation corridors in the 37th District.
