Congresswoman Laura Richardson Announces 37th District Congressional Arts Competition Winner

Congresswoman Laura Richardson is pleased to announce that Carson resident and Verbum Dei High School senior Terrell Brim is the winner of the annual 37th District Congressional Art Competition, which was held last night at California State University, Dominguez Hills.

“Each year, the number of contestants grows and their unique talents continue to amaze me,” Congresswoman Richardson said. “While it is difficult to choose just one winner, Terrell’s vivid imagery and his symbolism of good and evil made his painting stand out. The great collection of works that this year’s competition produced should make the entire district proud of the talent that our young people have.”

Brim, whose painting was an oil on canvas entry, was chosen as the first place winner from a total of 28 individual entries from across the 37th District. Brim’s work of art will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. In addition, Southwest Airlines will provide three complementary tickets to Washington D.C. for him and his parents to attend the official unveiling ceremony. Brim, who wants to become a firefighter, is planning to attend El Camino College in Torrance starting in September.

Long Beach resident and Cabrillo High School student Brian Sapitula earned second place for his pastel drawing on paper of an American freedom theme and the third place winner was Long Beach resident Isabel-Rose Babasa of Cabrillo High School.
