Compton Holds 5th Annual Turkey Give-way

Compton Councilman Dr. Willie O. Jones, 4th District, the City of Compton, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Tau Tau held the 5th annual Turkey give-away. This is the 5th year that the City of Compton, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.’s Compton chapter partnered to provide free turkeys to the city’s residents. Councilman Jones said, “Today is a great day in the City of Compton, and I want to thank Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.-Tau Tau chapter (City of Compton Chapter), Assemblyman Isadore Hall, 52nd District, the Compton Cobras (City of Compton ABA basketball team), and KJLH radio for helping to provide more than 800 residents of the City of Compton with free turkeys for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“Each year, since 2005, we have strived to give more, to serve more,” stated Assemblyman Hall, who is also a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Tau Tau chapter. Assemblyman Hall concluded by saying “we have been blessed to be able to serve more than 2,000 Compton residents since our first year, and this will be our best year thus far.”

The Compton Cobras, the city’s very own professional basketball team, were out in full force, including the team owner, Tyrone Rodgers. KJLH radio has been involved since 2005 and provided great music for those residents waiting in long lines to receive their turkeys.

4th District Councilman, Dr. Willie O. Jones has been involved with the turkey give-away since 2005, although this is his first time serving as the city’s Councilman. “I am grateful and thankful for all who have donated turkeys,” stated Councilman Jones. Councilman Jones, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., said “I am even grateful for the men of Omega Psi Phi, and their service to our great city, as well as the Compton Cobras.”

A grateful recipient of a turkey was heard saying, “Thank you, and I’ll see you next year,” as she went on her way. Truly, today was a great day in the City of Compton.
