On Saturday, March 26, 2011, the California Science Center’s 13th annual Discovery Ball celebrated sustainable cuisine and culinary science by featuring the Golden State’s top chefs and winemakers. Gala guests were treated to tasty creations by 10 stellar chefs who were on site demonstrating their passion for sustainability.

The California Science Center’s annual black-tie gala has steadily gained prominence and respect over its 13-year history. This year the event attracted more than 600 guests comprising community and business leaders and elected officials at local, state and federal levels.

Chaired by California Science Center Foundation Trustee Tom Soto of Craton Equity Partners, the annual black-tie gala is a premier philanthropic event in Los Angeles. It has been recognized as a “virtual who’s who of the Los Angeles business community” by the Los Angeles Business Journal and ranked 4th among Southern California’s Top 100 Benefits according to BizBash.

Among the many community and business leaders present were Former Governor George Deukmejian, State Senators Curren Price and Rod Wright, Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel, Councilmember Herb Wesson and his wife Fabian, who is Vice Chair of the Science Center Board of Directors, Councilmember Jan Perry and LAUSD Board of Education member Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte. Science Center President, Jeffrey Rudolph notes that, “The proceeds from this fundraiser will enable us to continue providing an exceptional model for science learning and education – one that is emulated both at home and abroad.”

Located just south of downtown Los Angeles in Exposition Park, the California Science Center is one of Southern California’s premier family destinations. The Science Center’s mission is to stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in everyone by creating fun, memorable experiences and has welcomed over 18 million visitors since its grand opening in February of 1998.
