Bishop James & Lady Delois Walker

Officers and members of the Southern California Region, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Ninth District, will honor Bishop James and Lady Delois Walker on Saturday, April 12, at 6 p.m., in a Quadrennial Celebration Banquet.

Celebrating their first four years of leadership in the region, the banquet will take place at the Quiet Cannon Restaurant, 901 North Via Clemente, in Montebello.

Limited tickets are available to the pubic. The donation is $50.  Call (323) 294-3830 to obtain tickets.

The Rt. Rev. Walker was elected the 56th bishop of the C.M.E. Church at its 36th quadrennial session and 37th General Conference held in Mobile, Alabama.  At that time, he was the first of five new bishops elected. He replaced Bishop Henry M. Williamson, Sr., who now presides over the Eighth Episcopal District covering Texas and a portion of Arkansas.

“The Lord has blessed and elevated me to this level in the C.M.E. Church and I am humbled and pleased to continue to serve in this leadership role in the Ninth Episcopal District,” said Bishop Walker. The Ninth District encompasses much of the western United States, including Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, California and Alaska.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7, New King James Version),” added the Bishop, “as we fulfill our quadrennial theme, An Essential Church Poised for 21st Century Ministry.”

The former pastor of Phillips Metropolitan C.M.E. in Hartford, CT, he has extensive spiritual leadership experience serving as Interim Presiding Elder of the New York-New England District, and as pastor of Trinity C.M.E. in Toccoa, GA, and at Sykes Memorial C.M.E. in Oklahoma City, OK.

Bishop Walker also is a former President of the Greater Hartford Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and Interim Dean and Adjunct Professor of the BMP Program at Hartford Seminary.  He is the founder and Executive Director of the North Star Center for Human Development, Inc. and a Human Services Advocate for the State of Connecticut Office for Protection and Advocacy.

In addition, the Southern California Region Spring Convocation will convene on Friday, April 11, and conclude on April 12, at Phillips Temple C.M.E., 971 East 43rd Street in Los Angeles.

The theme is ‘The Giving Of Thanks For Presiding Prelate: Let The Church Say Amen!’  The Rev. Bernard M. Jackson is the host pastor, the Rev. John Deron Johnson is host presiding elder of the Los Angeles-San Diego District.

The guest preacher for the worship service on Friday at 7 p.m., will be Pastor Oliver DeWayne Walker of Phillips Temple C.M.E. in Indianapolis, IN, and also the brother of Bishop Walker.
