The life, vision and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be commemorated on Sunday, January 15, at 4 p.m., by the Southern California Region Ministerial Alliance of the 9th Episcopal District of the C.M.E. Church.

The service will be held at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 971 East 43rd Street in Los Angeles. Co-hosts include Bishop James B. Walker, Presiding Elder John Deron Johnson, Presiding Elder Wendell Oldham, and Pastor Joseph Gardner, Alliance president.

“We invite everyone to join us as we reflect on the legacy of Dr. King, the first Black American honored by a national holiday. Our theme is ‘We Still Have a Dream’ because we believe some dreams never die,” said Pastor Gardner.

The keynote speaker is Rev. Emma Burrus, associate minister of Warren Chapel C.M.E. Church led by Pastor Oliver E. Buie. A powerful and inspiring preacher, she also serves as secretary of the Southern California Region Annual Conference.

Prior to her call to the ministry, she served in various capacities at Warren Chapel including Trustee, Church Treasurer, Missionary President, and Choir President.  In addition, she worked 23 years at Martin Marietta Manned Space System as a materiel requirements analyst and is currently employed by the Los Angeles Police Department as acting senior detention officer.

For more information about the service, call Phillips Temple at (323) 233-4783.
