2011 BET Awards Recap
Chris Brown shines bright on BET’s big night

From the pre-parties to the exclusive invite dinners and then off to the after parties, the BET Awards is always the hottest ticket to have in June.  However, it all comes down to the very moment of the first performer to the very last performer; with the question, who rocked the show and who slacked at the show, not to mention, who goes home with the gold?

This year’s BET awards were definitely a sight to see as Kevin Hart led the awards show with his comedic contribution as host. As stars hit the red carpet, energy was high and it was clear the majority was excited to see Beyonce and Chris Browns’ comeback.  However, Beyonce did not perform live at the BET Awards but streamed her performance.

Recording artist Joe, who is working on a new album titled, “The Good, The Bad, The Sexy”, said that he “was most excited to see everyone but mainly Chris Brown.”

Gospel artist Deitrick Haddon joyfully said that he “was excited to see everyone at what they do best.”

MC Lyte, said that she “was most excited to see the youth with the legends.”

The Los Angeles rap duo, the New Boyz, blushed as they said they were most excited to see Beyonce perform.

Leon Robinson said that he was looking forward to seeing a great show.

Countless entertainers from music, acting and sports, attend the show every year as the BET awards highlights those who have worked their butt off to be nominated and who have slid through the cracks. It was very clear to see that Chris Brown worked very hard this past year, not only to be there but to be accepted.

Last year, Brown made his appearance at the 2010 BET Awards and shocked everyone as he cried on stage.  This year not one tear fell as he gracefully proved that he deserved to be the most nominated artist at this year’s 2011 BET awards. Taking home four out of six, Brown received the most awards of the night.

Lil Wayne came in second with the highest nominations but took home no awards of his own.  He would share his award for collaboration with Chris Brown.

Kayne West, Rihanna and Drake tied with four a piece with the third highest nominations but it was only Rihanna and Kanye that won an award taking home one out of four.

One of the most shocking moments of the BET Awards (because of the history that Brown and Rihanna shares) had to be when it was mistakenly announced that Chris brown was the winner of the Coca Cola Viewers Choice award, then to say that Rihanna had won the award which was accepted by Drake (Because she was nowhere in sight just as she was not last year) then later revealed by Kevin Hart that Chris Brown was the real winner. (Brown was next to Hart only to be found smiling) Not sure out of joy or revenge.

This is the second year in a row that Rihanna has not shown up for the BET Awards, however, it was reported that she was in Los Angeles at the time. Not sure know if it has anything to do with Chris Brown’s presence or the fact that BET won’t run her man down video because of the extreme violence that it portrays with her shooting a man in the head.

However, the BET Awards were definitely a sight to see, a lot of surprises but a show worth waiting for. As the show rolls around next year, it will still be the hottest ticket to have and continue to spark debate about who will own the night much like Chris Brown did at this year’s awards ceremony.
