Chase Cakes debuts yet again at the family festival of the year.

The 9th Annual Taste of Soul is coming soon and is the family festival of the year for Southern Los Angeles. Food, particularly desserts is a main component of the festival, which there will be unlimited delectable treats for the community to feed on.  Chase Cakes by Maria Smith will be returning as a vendor showcasing her goodies to TOS goers. Keeping it in the family, Smith was moved by her son Chase to start her business. Known for her creative style, Smith first Chase Cake design was baking a cupcake movie theme for her son’s 2nd birthday party.

“I got real creative with the designs and ended loving the response I received from it,” said Smith on what led her to start of Chase Cakes. Inspired from her work, she started her business in 2012. The South Carolina native has always had a knack for baking as she often showcased her goods to her family.

“I always held the Christmas dinners, whatever they like, I incorporate in the cupcakes,” said Smith. On what makes her cupcakes and cakes so good, she replies, “It’s the love that I put in them.” Priding herself on standing apart from other bakeries, she revealed “it’s the uniqueness of our flavors,” on why her desserts are different.

Sweet potato surprise, white chocolate, Resse’s Buttercup and oh so lemon mini bunt cake are few of her products just to name a few.  She is just as happy to be participating in this year’s TOS as she was last year. “I enjoyed the experience, the smiles and making others happy.”

“The interaction with the community,” is what Smith is looking forward to the second time around. Not wanting to give away too much, she was mum on what she’s presenting at the 9th Annual TOS festival, responding, “Awesome new flavors.”

Making a name for herself, Chase Cakes is not just local, but is nationwide, as Smith ships her desserts across the country, to Atlanta. Aside from engaging with the community, the TOS provides exposure for businesses such as Chase Cakes. It’s a no-brainer; the Taste of Soul franchise advertises Black businesses while allowing the community to try something new.
