Four student-artists from California awarded prestigious gold and silver awards from YoungArts

Honor includes $10,000 and $5,000 awards and a week of artistic experience in New York City

The YoungArts Week results are in, and the California finalists won big! Michael Beuttler of San Anselmo California, Michael Silberblatt of Cornonado, Charlotte Williams of Compton and Sean Plumb of Los Angeles have been honored by YoungArts, the core program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) for their exceptional performances during the 2010 national YoungArts Week. Plumb was given the Gold award which carries a $10,000 prize, while Beuttler, Silberblatt and Williams were given Silver awards, which carry a $5,000 prize. Along with their awards, these four young artists will also be invited to travel to New York City for In the Studio, an artistic residency with an interdisciplinary emphasis, April 17-23, 2010. Award details are below:

-Michael Beuttler, San Anselmo, CA, Sir Francis Drake High School, Silver award in Cinematic Arts

-Sean Plumb, Los Angeles, CA, Loyola High School, Gold award in Voice

-Michael Silberblatt, Coronado, CA, Coronado High School, Silver award in Theater

-Charlotte Williams, Compton, CA, Los Angeles Cnty High School for Arts, Silver award in Theater

These students were among the group of 142 high school students from across the nation who came to Miami for YoungArts Week 2010, a five-day intensive training and performance program with world-renowned artists. Each of the young artists who attended were selected from an original application pool of more than 4,000 students nationally. The 45 Gold and Silver awards given this year are based upon national panel evaluations during YoungArts Week.

The Gold and Silver Award winners travel again to an all-expense paid week in New York City called In the Studio. This event is a once-in-a-lifetime experience allowing students interdisciplinary enrichment activities and an opportunity to perform at Baryshnikov Arts Center and exhibit at Affirmation Arts Gallery. The students also participate in master classes and workshops with elite master teachers in their particular discipline. Master Teachers have included Mikhail Baryshnikov, Edward Albee and Martin Scorsese.

“For many of the Gold and Silver award winners the week in Miami combined with the week in New York City will give them the tools that they need to succeed in the arts,” said Christina DePaul President & CEO of YoungArts.

Registration for the next year’s YoungArts Week will open on March 15. For more information visit or call 305.377.1140.
