TV-One Chairperson and Radio One, Inc. Founder Cathy Hughes will be honored at the 39th Annual Walter Bremond Pioneer of African American Achievement Award dinner, on Friday, the second of November, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

“This year’s theme: ‘A Legacy of Giving’ perfectly describes our honoree, who regularly gives of her time and money. Ms. Hughes continues to demonstrate the maxim to ‘whom much is given, much is required.’ And that is one of the many reasons Ms. Hughes is at the top of her game,” says Charisse Bremond Weaver, president and CEO of the Brotherhood Crusade.

Ms. Hughes began her career in radio in 1975 and took her company, Radio One, Inc., public in 1999. She expanded into cable television with TV-ONE in 2004. A driving force for positive representations of African Americans in radio and television, Ms. Hughes joins the distinguished list of past recipients which includes Berry Gordy, Muhammad Ali, Quincy Jones, Tavis Smiley, Rosa Parks, Magic Johnson, Stevie Wonder and Brotherhood Crusade Chairman Danny Bakewell, Sr. as a recipient of this year’s prestigious award. More than 400 guests are scheduled to attend and will help celebrate Ms. Hughes. The legendary Ashford & Simpson will provide the entertainment. A sold-out crowd is expected and all proceeds support signature Brotherhood Crusade programs, such as Mothers in Action; African American Unity Center; Jim Cleamons Books and Basketball Camp; the Hepatitis C initiative; and L.A. Bridges program, which offers tutoring and pre-gang intervention.
