Brotherhood Crusade recently hosted its 11th Annual Camp P.L.U.S. (Preserving Legacies and Uniting Sisterhood) Young Women’s Empowerment Retreat to provide the youth with tools they need to succeed in school and life.

Fifty young women from South LA and Inglewood participated in the program held at Camp Bob Waldorf in the Glendale Mountains. The theme was “Be the Shoulders Others Can Stand Upon.”

“The retreat challenged our participants with thrilling activities like rock climbing, high ropes, archery, and yoga—experiences that are not always accessible to our youth. Through these activities, they had the opportunity to build self- confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Additionally, each young lady designed and decorated a journal and through guided exercises, deep self-reflection and self-actualization they began to plan and write a path for personal growth,” said Charisse Bremond Weaver, president and CEO of the Brotherhood Crusade.

Sponsors of the retreat included Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, Ballmer Group, BMO, Celeste Alleyne, Comerica Bank, Councilmember Curren Price, Councilmember Heather Hutt, Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, JPMorgan Chase, Kerri Harper Howie (McDonald’s owner/operator), Laphonza Butler, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper, Los Angeles Sparks, SEIU 2015, Servicon Cares, Southwest Airlines, and the Smidt Foundation.
