There are times when you have a certain taste in mind when it comes to food…Chinese, Italian, Soul food, etcera. Then, there are times when you just want some barbecue. There are a lot of barbecue places around town. One in particular was turning heads at this year’s Taste of Soul festival, Brother’s BBQ.

Brother’s BBQ was established in 2005 catering many events including the Long Beach Jazz Festival, Newport Beach Jazz Festival and Las Vegas Jazz Festival. Now, they have finally arrived on Crenshaw three weeks ago and are ready to grill up some good food.

The Bennett brothers are grilling up the usual favorites in the neighborhood and getting good reviews. Rocelious Bennett is co-owner of Brother’s BBQ and they have been a part of Taste of Soul for the past five years. They recently enjoyed continued success at this year’s Taste of Soul.

“They received us very well at the Taste of Soul,” said Bennett. “We sold over four or five hundred plates,” so you know the food must be good.

Brother’s BBQ started with Bennett’s pastor from the Church of God and Christ. “My pastor there owned a barbecue business and I was about 12 years old,” said Bennett. “He wanted to know if I would work for him.” From there, the Bennetts learned how to barbecue.

“The meat is very tender, falls off the bone, well seasoned,” are just some of the attributes Bennett used to describe their barbecue. “It’s a Kansas City-style, a little sweet, a little tang at the end of the sauce and a very good smoke flavor,” said Bennett. Bennett also informed me that everything is cooked on the barbecue pit even their delicious baked beans.

Brother’s BBQ still caters events and are still being booked for future events. “We have good quality food and come check us out,” said Bennet.

Located on the corner of 78th and Crenshaw at 7725 Crenshaw Blvd, Brother’s BBQ is waiting for you, so don’t stall now. If you want to eat some good, finger-lickin’ food, give Brother’s BBQ a try today.

Brother’s BBQ is open Thursday/Sunday11:00am-7:00pm and Friday/Saturday 11:00am-9:00pm. For more information, please call at (323) 751-1050.
